Welcome to the Ravin Balkans page

The Balkans (often referred to as the Balkan Peninsula although the two are not coterminous) is a geographic region of southeastern Europe.  The region takes its name from the Balkan Mountains, which run through the center of Bulgaria into eastern Serbia.  The region has a combined area of 212,000 square miles (550,000 km2) and a population of about 55 million people as of this writing.

The picture above is of us with a Russian soldier in front of a Russian transport vehicle at camp Pristina in Kosovo.  Many of the bases where we perforemed were "International" bases, in that they were represented by soldiers from from all over the world.  These International bases were representing either NATO or the UN.

Here we are on an M1 tank.

And here we are with our friend, Tina.  I still keep in contact with Tina to this day.

Europeans are still allowed to advertise cigarettes on billboards.  I'm not a smoker, but something about this billboard caught my eye.
