Webtrends Stats - Posted by Guru-Choc on Sunday, May 21, 2000 21:43

I love stats, they are such amazing things thats why I installed the new stats counter at the bottom of the page, it has 45 different stats you can look at, it even tells you which page on the site people come too first, and funily enough 15% don't even bother with the news page, just go straight to the roms page and leech em. You can have public access to the stats by clicking here for a short time only. I only have the counter installed on 4 pages for now.

A good advice from Dr_Evil - Posted by Mason on Sunday, May 21, 2000 4:43

Dr_Evil says: "When a problem comes a long you must zip it! Zip it good". Sorry had to post it. I think it's a funny joke.

My response to Hanaho - Posted by Anticpuid on Saturday, May 20, 2000 0:29

First I would like to send my appologies to Hanaho and Richard Ragon for my post. Based on the information I had and that is available from Hanaho's offical site the Hot Rod functions as a PS/2 keyboard. Until my "misleading" information was posted Hanaho had not publically disclosed to Hot Rod owners (myself included) that USB adapaters such as the one I suggested would work with the Hot Rod are not suitable for use with their product. Overall I find it very disappointing that Hanaho has known these adapters may be troublesome and has not communicated as such to current and potential Hot Rod owners until my post was made.

New sites - Posted by Guru-Choc on Friday, May 19, 2000 17:46

I just registered a new domain, www.c64heaven.com,(it isn't hosted anywhere yet) wonder what I will be hosting there, maybe some C64 dumps I would imagine, many that have just been found and the oldies awell, 2500+ online at once, lets see what happens in a few days time. I have also got my 3 adult sites almost ready to go, I won't be posting the addys here as this is a family site, but the money made from the adult sites will remove the banners completely from this one once everything is up and running smoothly. If you would like the sites names and are over 21 please mail me here and I will let you know when they are open, I also have a webmasters program for them thats pays 50% referal commision, if you know anyone how would like an adult sponser for their web site, use this mail link here.

HotRod no-no with USB - Posted by Guru-Choc on Friday, May 19, 2000 16:52

Richard Ragon/CEO HotRod Joystick has mailed me this response to the article that was posted below, basically saying don't use your HotRod with any USB device that 3rd party developers are making, you can read his mail here.

Slashdot is reporting that the top level domain .god will soon become available. The person reported to have proposed selling this domain is saying he will not respect trademarks or copyright laws in respect to selling the domain names. Any Microsoft fans want to register www.billgatesis.god soon? :P

ZSNESWin - Posted by BMan2 on Friday, May 19, 2000 11:09

A snippet of news I missed the other day about one of the "big two" SNES emulators ZSNES getting a Windows port in the distant future. While progress is going slowly with most things ZSNES - this is one for SNES fans to look out for in the future. More info can be found on the ZSNES news page.

MAME CE gets an update - Posted by BMan2 on Friday, May 19, 2000 11:05

Various reports are showing that a new version of MAME CE - or MAME for those cute lil hand held portable type thingies (:P) has been released. The homepage is here - but it was down the last time I looked. If you're interested in playing Galaga absolutely WHEREVER you wanna be - go grab a look at this great port of the world's best arcade emulator.

Stepping over the border - Posted by BMan2 on Friday, May 19, 2000 11:02

Just a quick update as I've finally found a computer that'll let me update the site (note to ALL Internet Cafe's: Comic Chat is EVIL and so are 25 computer networks run off dialups)

Anyway - I'm over in Banana Bender territory - or Queensland for those less in the know - and developing an unhealthy addiction to beerage - thank god it's not XXXX :P Unfortunately - I won't be here long enough to see NSW humiliate Queensland in State Of Origin V2 but I'm sure they'll get there without me.

Now - on with some updates I've found. :P

Beyond Ridiculous - Posted by Adam M on Friday, May 19, 2000 9:15

It now seems that Dr. Dre (Andre Young) has entered the Napster Fracus, and is demanding that Napster Block Access to his songs. The Funny thing is that Neither Napster, Metallica, or Dr. Dre have any control over this. I myself don't use napster, But it has been widely known that there are ways of circumventing any block they attempt. The Artists should spend more time writing new music, and Not worry about this losing battle.

Legend of Zelda for the PC - Posted by BudFern on Thursday, May 18, 2000 23:59

I always loved playing Zelda on my old NES. But now we can play it on our PCs. Zelda Quest is an enhanced clone of the original! The original quest is exact, and there are other downloadable quests and even an editor to create your own. If you like this type of game check it out here.

Leland Games - Posted by Adam M on Thursday, May 18, 2000 4:08

It should be interesting to see how some of the controls are emulated, I remember especially the World Series Baseball Game, had some unusual ones to say the least. There were 2 joysticks and several buttons.

New emulator - Posted by TheBeaver on Thursday, May 18, 2000 2:12

I have been working my own emulator over the last few months and am glad to say it is ready to release.
ARH will be the host.
I am just awaiting the final stamp of approval from guruchoc before I let the new pages rip.
This new emulator is designed to also be a development tool for other emulators (such as MAME) so, when it is all up and happening, recompiling MAME for developing drivers may be a thing of the past as this new emu (called Mimic) uses text based driver files.

Susie breaks 19 yr old record - Posted by Guru-Choc on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 21:09

The simply amazing Susie O'Neill finally got the monkey off her back and broke Mary T Meagher's 19 yr old 200m butterfly record, another super swim from our Olympic Swimming Trials, I really don't know why any other nation is even bothering to send swimmers along in their Olympic teams, Aussies swim like fish.

Awards and stuff............ - Posted by Guru-Choc on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 20:58

Don't do this often but I must be in a good mood, got a nice mention on Emu Portal and finally the extremely nice guys at Sub-List (look here for other interesting stuff aswell) were nice enough to include me on their list.

Hotrod gets USB support - Posted by Anticpuid on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 0:46

Beklin has annoucned a PS/2 to USB adapater. The adapater allows you to connect PS/2 keyboards and mice to USB equipped computers. It also correctly maps PS/2 keyboards for use with Macs. Since the Hotrod joystick is functionally a PS/2 keyboard this means it is now possible to use a Hotrod with USB equipped Macs and "legacy free" PCs. Definately good news since the USB native Hotrod seems to have disappeared from the radar scope.

ROMs dead again - Posted by Guru-Choc on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 20:58

MAME and RAINE ROMs are ok, everything else bad.

Leland Games - Posted by Mason on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 16:34

According to the MAME WIP Page Aaron Giles has submitted the Leland which he did together with Paul Leland. Keep looking here for more info. The Leland driver contains alot of great games. I even remembered playing Indyhead and Super Offroad on the Commodore 64.

More boards dumped - Posted by Mason on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 16:31

The Guru dumped some more boards. One of them is Super Punchout from Nintendo. Let's hope he get time to do samples for the game too, which is missing.

OFFICE 2000 Security Vulnerability - Posted by Adam M on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 11:48

Microsoft released a security patch today, apparently there is a problem with how a certain active X control is marked. Why am I not surprised...... you can find the patch HERE

What a show off !!! - Posted by TheBeaver on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 1:49

FYI - Posted by TheBeaver on Tuesday, May 16, 2000 1:21

I am not sure if the last entry is a joke or not but for whoever cares...(from the point of view of FTP)...
ASCII is a texted based transfer which is therefore 7-bit (the 8th bit is sometimes used as parity)
and Binary is, well, a binary transfer which sends each 8-bit byte as is.
Sorry to bore everyone :)

All ROMs working again. - Posted by Guru-Choc on Monday, May 15, 2000 21:45

If I only knew the difference between ASCII and Binary.

Metallica, beaten at their own game. - Posted by Guru-Choc on Monday, May 15, 2000 21:36

Monaco GP Simulator - Posted by Adam M on Monday, May 15, 2000 5:52

Mike DX of EmuDX and the Monaco GP Simulator, has been kind enough to share a some WIP imformation on the Monaco GP Simulator. It seems that both scrolling and collision are working at this point, however the simulator is still in the early stages, and a fair amount of work remains. Upon completion, the simulator should be very faithful to the original arcade classic. I loved playing this classic in my youth, and am looking forward with great anticipation to re-living some of those fond memories once the simulator is completed.

Team Japump continues.... - Posted by Mason on Monday, May 15, 2000 2:44

The guys at Team Japump got time to dump some more games. There's alot of games based on the ST-V, but also a single one on Namco NA-1 System. Both systems which could be great to see emulated.
