*************************************************** BIG FAT WARNING READ INSTALLATION BELOW FOR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OR IT MAY NOT WORK ! *************************************************** -= RiOFXP =- by Tom Kistner based on the Rio500Remix COM object by Andy Sherwood with additions and fixes by Tom Kistner URL: http://duncanthrax.net/riofxp/ RiOFXP is a replacement for the RioPort software delivered by Diamond/S3. It is also able to transfer files and folders from the Rio to harddisk. It runs on Windows 98/ME and Windows 2000. NT and 95 are NOT supported due to general lameness and/or missing USB support ;) See CHANGELOG.TXT for version changes and UPGRADE.TXT for extra upgrading information. DISTRIBUTION ------------ Starting with 2.0, RiOFXP is distributed as a self-propelled windows .exe installer. This makes it easier for some users. :) The main website is http://duncanthrax.net/riofxp/. Check back often, since RiOFXP is in heavy development and new versions appear all the time. INSTALLATION ------------ Run the installer. Follow the instructions nicely :). Be sure to read the README (this file :). Now try to run RiOFXP. If you get an error about missing DLLs, OCXes or ActiveX controls then download Microsofts Visual Basic Run-Time files at http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb60pro/Redist/sp4/win98/EN-US/VBRun60sp4.exe and install it ! Then run RioFXP again. It works ? Perfect. Have fun and remember to check the website for updates. If it does NOT work, please post a message in the forum on my web page or write me a mail. TROUBLESHOOTING --------------- 1. If you get the Error "Object does not support this property or method" then read UPGRADE.TXT 2. ALL OTHER ERRORS: reformat the Rio with RioPort, then try again. If you still have problems, contact me by mail. USAGE ----- 1. Upload files or folders with drag and drop into the List Window. If you drop a whole folder, all files (but not sub-folders) in this folder will be uploaded. A matching folder on the Rio will automatically be created. Great for copying whole releases including .nfo .sfv and .m3u files ! 2. Swap files by using dragging in the list window. You can only swap one file at a time. 3. Rename files by using the "slow doubleclick" method (like in Explorer) 4. If you want to download files, you will be prompted for a location. To make it permanent, select the "Save DL path" option and the "Save settings" option to save it between sessions. 5. The rest is self explanatory. For a feature list, visit the web site. SOURCES ------- RiOFXP is licensed under the GPL and the full sources for both the COM object and the RiOFXP application are available on my webpage. WARNING: this was my first VC/VB programming experience EVER ! please do NOT email me saying "your VB code sucks". I learned VB in 20 minutes with the MS online help. CREDITS ------- OK, here we go. 90% of the work on this project was done by Andy Sherwood. He developed the COM object, but stopped the project like 5 minutes before completion. Probably because of a woman .. thats the only way good projects get stuck ;) I picked up the sources on his page (http://www.evilaliens.com/Rio500Remix.htm) and added a few functions, plus fixed a number of bugs. And of course, I installed Visual Basic for the first time and started development on the RiOFXP application. Also BIG credits and a friendly "HI !" to the guys of the *nix support development crew at http://rio500.sourceforge.net/ .If you run *nix, go there. I used some of their code as a template ;) CONTRIBUTORS ------------ James Amendola - proper time display for files <> 128k CBR Ladislav Prosek - speedup of up/download code ! great work Remy - file move and F2 key renaming support midevice - MP3 tag support DISCLAIMER ---------- I cannot guarantee that you won't fuck up your hardware with this. If something goes terribly FUBAR, I cannot be held responsible.
