Known Issues 4. Release Notes =============================================================== 1. File Contents The executable file pmp500_firmware_216.exe is a self- extracting compressed file, which when expanded, will place two files on your computer. Typically, the files will be extracted to a folder labeled C:\Rio500\Firmware , unless the user has changed this defualt setting. These two files are: Rio500Flash_216.exe - This is the utility which communicates with the Rio500 hardware and uploads the firmware file to the Rio. The upgrade utility is version 1.00. Readme.txt - This is the text file you are now reading. =============================================================== 2. Instructions Note: This upgrade will erase the contents of the Rio500. 2.1 Run the self-extracting file pmp500_firmware_216.exe which you downloaded from the Internet. 2.2 Connect the Rio500 to the computer with the USB cable. 2.3 Turn the Rio500 on. 2.4 Double click on the Icon labeled 'Rio500Flash_216.exe' 2.5 Click on the button labled 'Start' Acknowledge the pop-up window that the internal memory will be reformatted. 2.6 The utility will begin to upload the new firmware file to the Rio500. Important: Do not close the program or remove the USB cable during the middle of the upgrade. 2.7 When the upgrade is complete, cycle power to the Rio (off/on). After cycling power, pressing refresh on the utility will show the new firmware version on the player. 2.8 Close the utility. The Rio500 is now ready to receive and play MP3 files and Audible files. =============================================================== 3. Known Issues: - If in step 2.7, the firmware version still displays the old firmware code, it will be necessary to modify the upgrade sequence.
