Overview

This document describes hardware and software information, as well as the installation and use of corporate drivers for the HP Officejet series devices. These drivers are targeted toward users in a corporate environment. They provide a customized, small footprint software solution on the Windows 2000 and Windows XP platforms.

The following HP Officejet devices are supported: 7400, 7300, 7200, 6200, 6100, 5600, 5500, and 4200 All-in-One series multifunction devices.

The key advantages of the corporate software solution are listed below:

·         Smaller driver footprint. Print and scan drivers are smaller in size than the full retail solution.

·         Faster, less intrusive, "silent" installation. The installation is designed to integrate well into corporate install scripts and software push processes.

·         Elimination of extra software and background processes.

·         New Enterprise Release allows end users to use plug-and-play drivers without administrative rights.

·         Multiple Officejet models are supported by one driver package.

Unavailable functions in the corporate solution

The following functions from the full retail solution are unavailable in the corporate solution:

·         PC control of Fax/Copy functions. The user must use the control panel on the device (walkup).

·         Control panel Scan button. This button is non-operational with the corporate solution.

·         HP Image Zone, Director or Solutions Center. The HP Image Zone, Director or Solutions Center software is not installed with the corporate solution.

·         OCR software.

·         Product Tour and Registration.

·         Other software items, such as bundled software.

Note: Your product might not include fax support.

There are three functional parts of the corporate solution: the TWAIN Data Source manager, the printer driver, and the Silent Installer.

·         The TWAIN Data Source manager is compliant with TWAIN 1.8 standards, and does not have a GUI interface. For more information on TWAIN, visit their Web site at http://www.twain.org/.

·         The printer driver accommodates 4800 optimized dpi printing.

·         The Silent Installer supports installations from the installer package and from an SMS push down.

The corporate solution includes a USB connect (direct connect) installer and a command line network installer.

How do I scan with the corporate solution?

Unlike the full solution, the corporate solution does NOT offer a dedicated Scan user interface or software Scan button. Also, the control panel Scan button is not operational in the corporate solution. Instead, the corporate solution is designed without a UI, allowing the user to scan through any TWAIN-compliant 3rd party application such as Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, or graphics applications such as CorelDraw. To scan with the corporate solution, the user typically selects an Insert type function from a pull-down menu. In Microsoft Word, for example, choose: Insert>Picture>From Scanner or Camera.

WIA scan is functional direct USB connect only.

Important Note: Many features in the full retail solution are disabled or unavailable while using the corporate solution. To use these features, install the full software solution (HP Image Zone Software) included with the product.

Supported operating systems

·         Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 3 or higher

·         Windows XP Home, Service Pack 1 or higher recommended

·         Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 1 or higher recommended

These corporate drivers are Microsoft WHQL compliant on both the Windows 2000 and Windows XP platforms.

Note: The HP Corporate Drivers are not supported on Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Microsoft Windows .NET Server, Microsoft Windows NT (all versions), Microsoft Windows CE, Windows Terminal Operating System, Windows ME, Windows 98, Windows 98SE or Windows 95.

Prerequisites for installation

The user installing the software MUST have administrative privileges during setup. This is a Microsoft Corporation requirement. If the software is installed via a software distribution process such as SMS, administrative privileges must be in effect during the software installation portion to the PC. Administrative rights must also be in effect when the device is installed.

The only exception to this is the image created with the Enterprise Release feature. See Enterprise Release for more information.

Internet Explorer, version 5.01 Service Pack 2 or higher, is required. Please upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, which is available from the Microsoft Web site. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie.

Installing with earlier versions of HP Officejet software

This corporate driver software is compatible with the software for the following products: HP Officejet 4200 Series, HP Officejet D series, HP Officejet V Series, HP Officejet K Series, and HP Officejet G Series.

The installation of these corporate drivers will uninstall any incompatible older HP Officejet software (if present) and install newer versions of these drivers. If these corporate drivers are installed and then an attempt is made to install an older, incompatible version of the HP Officejet software, the installation will probably fail and the older software will not work. In some cases, the installation of the older versions of software will be blocked. Older versions of the software, except for those noted above as compatible, should not be installed over these corporate drivers.

Notes:

·         A reboot might take place during the install if there are compatible drivers already installed on the system. This is normal and will not affect the success of the install.

·         This corporate software installation will uninstall a driver only (Web only release) HP AiO Software installation

·         This corporate software installation will be blocked from installing if the computer already has a Full or Express install of the consumer software installed. First uninstall the consumer software and then install this corporate software release.

·         The corporate software release will uninstall prior HP AiO software releases.

Using multiple HP Officejet devices

You cannot connect two HP Officejet devices on the same PC (one with the HP Image Zone software and one with the corporate drivers) for most of the current HP products.

If the HP Image Zone software is currently on the PC and the corporate drivers are installed, the installation will be blocked. If the corporate drivers are on the PC and the HP Image Zone software is installed, the corporate drivers will be uninstalled first before the HP Image Zone software is installed.

For older HP devices (Officejet D Series, Officejet G Series, Officejet K Series, Officejet V Series or Officejet 5100 Series), the HP All-in-One corporate drivers will co-exist with the older HP devices on the same PC. This is true for the HP Image Zone software of the older HP devices, as well as the older HP corporate drivers.

Installing the corporate drivers (Direct connection)

There are two installation methods: software-first and hardware-first.

For Windows 2000 and Windows XP users, the software-first method of installation is supported from the CD or from the Web download. The hardware-first method is supported from the CD only.

The software-first method requires you to complete the software portion of the installation from either a downloaded web package or a CD before connecting the HP All-in-One device to the PC. If you use a script installation process such as SMS, this corporate solution is typically installed as part of the script PRIOR to the device being connected to the PC.

The hardware-first installation procedure is supported from the CD only. (This is when the USB cable is connected from the device to the PC, causing a plug-and-play event to occur before the software is installed).

Important Notes:

·         When installing the HP All-in-One corporate drivers, you might receive a message indicating that your system does not meet minimum system requirements. If your system is below the recommended requirements, you can continue with the installation, but a warning entry is written into the install log file.

·         Administrative privileges must be in effect during the software installation portion. Subsequently, administrative privileges are not required when the device is connected to the PC using the USB cable. Administrative privileges required by software installation portion can be granted by launching the installer through the “RunAs” functionality.

·         If you plan to upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows XP Professional, uninstall the software and disconnect the HP All-in-One device before you upgrade the OS.

·         If the USB cable from the PC to the HP All-in-One device is plugged in prior to the software installation, the operating system detects the device through Plug-and-Play, and launches the Found New Hardware Wizard. If this happens, click the Cancel button in the dialog box, and place the software CD into your CD-ROM drive.

·         You can install and uninstall the HP All-in-One device on a PC that has HP Digital Imaging Products installed (Photosmart printers, ScanJets, or Cameras). If you then uninstall the other product, some shared drivers might be deleted. If this happens, you will need to re-install the HP corporate solution software.

·         You must reboot the PC after installing the software in Windows 2000. You might not have to reboot after installing the software in Windows XP. In some cases, a reboot is necessary in order for all software functionality to work properly.

Extracting the files to disk

Once the web package is downloaded, double-click it to place the required files on the disk. The program asks where you want to save the files and suggests a default location of c:\temp\HP_WebRelease. Click Next to continue; the file placement starts.

For more information about repackaging, see Enterprise Release.

Enterprise software setup

The enterprise solution is available in different formats:

·         On an OEM CD

·         Download it from the Web as a web package (most popular)

Of the two formats, the web package is convenient but more complicated.

Downloading and preparing the software

When the web package is downloaded, the file is compressed with a name similar to gc_ep_w01_enu.exe, ep_rub_w01_ENU.exe or ep_cdb_enu.exe.

1.      Once the web package is downloaded, double-click it to place the required files on the disk.
The program asks where you want to save the files and suggests a default location of c:\temp\HP_WebRelease.

2.      Click Next to continue; the file placement starts.

For more information about repackaging, see Enterprise Release.

Software-first installation

Step 1. Install the software

Verify that the USB cable to your HP All-in-One device is disconnected from your computer. You can use either of the following methods to install the HP corporate solution software.

Option 1: Run setup.exe from the CD (or point to the downloaded web package location) to install the software to the default location (c:\Program Files\HP, if using the CD-ROM, or c:\temp\HP_WebRelease, if using the downloaded web driver).

Note: Inserting the CD into the CD-ROM drive will not cause an Autorun to occur, by design. Inserting the CD on a PC using the Windows XP Operating System, however, opens a Windows Explorer window and displays the contents of the root directory of the CD.

After you launch setup.exe, a dialog box appears and installs the software by going through the steps of checking the system, preparing to install, installing, and configuring the product.

Option 2: Run setup.exe from Microsoft's Systems Management Server (SMS). Setup.exe can be executed from the command line (no switches are required).

This step requires administrative privileges.

Step 2. Connect the HP All-in-One device to the PC

Once the HP corporate software is fully installed and the dialog box disappears from the screen, connect the HP All-in-One device to the PC using a USB connection. The drivers and remaining software installs automatically with no further intervention required from the user (i.e. installs silently). When the installation is complete, a message appears in the lower-right hand corner of the screen saying that the installation was successful and the device is ready to use.

This step does not require administrative privileges.

Note 1: In some cases, the Found New Hardware Wizard might appear asking for the file path to the Plug-and-Play drivers. Always choose Install the Software Automatically (Recommended) and click Next.

Note 2: If you are using Windows 2000, you need to reboot the machine. If you are using Windows XP, it is not necessary to reboot the machine after installation but it is highly recommended.

Installing the corporate drivers (Network connection)

For Windows 2000 and Windows XP users, the network install method is supported from the command line only. This can either be performed on a version of the software on CD or from the web download. Typical parameters used during the command line launch of the installer are shown below.

The 7200/7300/7400 series devices can be installed through the built-in 802.3/11 ports. The 5600/6200 devices require an external print server (EN3700, EX Box 175x, 310x, or 380x).

Network installation

Run setup.exe [parameters] from the file location to install the software to the default location (c:\temp\HP_WebRelease).
There are three primary parameters that can be used on the command line to setup.exe. They are:

·         -hostName <hostname>

·         -ipAddress <ip address>

·         -macAddress <mac address>

Setup.exe uses all three parameters, but the network initialization part uses only one of them. So, there is no need to use all the parameters. However, if more than one parameter is used, the network initialization portion uses a hierarchy to determine which parameter is used. The above list also represents the hierarchy.

The following are two examples of a silent network install. The first example is the preferred method.

setup.exe -ipAddress xx.xx.xx.xxx -s (Where xx represents actual values in the IP address)

setup.exe -s -hostName hp_printer

The order of the parameters doesn't matter. Once the network setup completes, there is no "finish" screen, the drivers are simply in the correct locations for print and other functionality (depending on the HP All-in-One device).

Additional network installation parameters

-s

Silent installation. Install with a progress dialog only, no user input required. No progress screens appear.

-l yyy

Install a specific language, where "yyy" is the three digit language abbreviation.

r1 forces reboot and r0 suppresses reboot.

-pi

Set preinstall mode. Drivers and software are pre installed but no "user visible" device-specific menus or shortcuts are installed. The result is an installation that only requires the device to be connected.

Preinstall implies silent installation and suppress reboot.

Silent installation means silent before reboot. Anything that setup launches in "LaunchIfNotReboot" might not be silent.

Network software installation fails on Windows 2000 when using the MAC address

Symptom: The installation progress completes, but there is no printer in the printer folder.

Workaround: Perform the network installation using either the IP Address or the Hostname.

End-user Installation without Administrative Privileges

This Enterprise Release can be installed from a limited account using the RunAs functionality, either by right-clicking the installer and selecting “RunAs…” from the contextual menu or by running the installer from the command line. For example:

runas /user:<admin account> setup.exe

This Enterprise Release allows end-users to finalize the installation (plug-and-play the drivers) without requiring administrative rights. This functionality is automatically provided with this release. Listed below are the steps to utilize this functionality:

Administrator Steps / RunAs Steps
1. Log into an account with or without administrative privileges
2. Install this corporate software, using the RunAs functionality if the account doesn’t have administrative privileges

End-user Step
1. Connect the HP All-in-One device to the PC (administrative privileges are not required).

Enterprise Release feature

Enterprise Release installs print and scan drivers on Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems. It is a downloadable web package.

With this new feature, an administrator can create a self-extracting executable that unpacks the enterprise files into an installable folder. The administrator can then repackage the installation as needed based on the type of installation desired. The resulting repackaged installation requires that the user have admin rights.

Enterprise Release is designed to integrate with common operating environment installation manager software for repackaging. For more information, see the documentation that came with your software.

TWAIN and WIA scanning

The HP corporate driver supports TWAIN scanning (under Windows 2000 and Windows XP), and Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) scanning (under Windows XP). TWAIN scanning using the control panel is not supported in this release. WIA scanning is not available from devices that are installed over the network.

Note: Consult the documentation that came with your software for more detailed scanning information.

TWAIN scanning

After the HP corporate software and hardware have been installed successfully, you can use any TWAIN-compliant application to scan. The examples below offer instructions on how to scan from the HP All-in-One device using a TWAIN-compliant application.

Scanning with Microsoft Word (Office 97 or later)

Before you begin, make sure that the Scanner and Camera add-ins for Microsoft Word (Microsoft Photo Editor for Office 97 users) are installed on your system. If they are not installed, contact your System Administrator for information on how to install these options from the Microsoft Office CD, or check the Microsoft Corporation knowledge base. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/.

1.      Place the picture or document to be scanned in the automatic document feeder or on the glass of the device.

2.      Click the Insert menu and select Picture, From Scanner or Camera.

3.      Select the HP TWAIN option, and click Insert or Custom Insert.

Scanning with Adobe Photo Deluxe Business Edition 1.1

1.      Place the picture or document you want to scan in the automatic document feeder or on the glass of the device.

2.      Select Get and Fix Photo, Get Photo.

3.      Click Scanners, and then select the HP TWAIN option.

4.      Click Mode, and then choose either Guided or Custom.

5.      Click Scan.

6.      When the scan is complete, click Done.

WIA scanning for Windows XP

1.      From the Windows Start menu, choose All Programs, Accessories, and then select Scanner and Camera Wizard.
The Scanner and Camera Wizard identifies the HP All-in-One device.

2.      Click Next and follow the prompts to complete the scan.

Note: WIA is not available from devices installed over a network.

Special optimized DPI printing mode

The HP All-in-One device offers an optimized DPI printing mode. Use of this mode should be done when the highest possible print quality for photos is needed.

1.      From the File menu of your software application, choose Print.
The Print dialog box appears. Make sure the HP All-in-One device is selected as the device you are printing to.

2.      Click Properties or Preferences, depending on the software application you are using.

3.      In the Paper Type list, select one of the premium photo papers.
Your HP All-in-One device automatically sets the Print Quality to Best.

Note: In order to use Optimized DPI printing, you must specify a premium photo paper as the Paper Type. If you do not, this option remains unavailable in the dialog box.

4.      In the Paper Size list, select the appropriate paper size.

5.      Select the Maximum DPI option.

6.      Click OK to close the dialog box.

7.      Click OK to print.

Note: In Optimized DPI mode, your HP All-in-One device prints significantly slower than normal and temporarily uses a large amount of disk space, but generates the highest quality output. This printing mode offers advantages to photo printing only.

Uninstalling the corporate drivers

To uninstall the corporate drivers, do one of the following:

·         From the Windows Start menu, select Programs, HP Officejet 5.0 Corporate Edition, Uninstall.

Or

·         Use the Add/Remove Programs utility from the Windows Control Panel.

HP Officejet HP Image Zone software

The full retail software solution includes the HP Image Zone, OCR, and other applications that are bundled with the Officejet devices, and is included on the CD that ships in the product box. These applications are not included in the corporate driver package.

Control panel Scan button is not operational with corporate solution

The Scan button on the control panel of the HP All-in-One device is not supported with the corporate drivers. It is only available when the HP Officejet Image Zone software (part of the full retail solution) is installed.

Known issues

·         Microsoft Corporation has a defect in their Office Suite of software where a multi-page scan sometimes fails when using the automatic document feeder. Because of this, you might have to scan a multi-page document one page at a time for uses in all Office applications.

·         If the HP corporate drivers and Image Zone software are both installed on one computer, they might be able to co-exist without incident, depending on the HP All-in-One model. However, uninstalling one of them might cause the other to malfunction.

·         Some popular laptops contain low-speed, low-power USB ports. If you plug a high-speed device into a low-speed, low-power USB port, you might see a Microsoft Windows General Protection Fault. To avoid this, do not plug the HP Officejet directly into these types of laptops. Instead, connect a powered USB hub to the laptop and then plug the HP Officejet device into the powered USB hub.

·         After you click the Properties button in the Print dialog box, you might experience a delay before the HP Officejet dialog box is displayed. This is normal behavior.

·         Bright light or direct sunlight on the HP Officejet might cause poor quality images (spots, bands, etc.) when scanning or copying.

·         On some models, an alignment page is automatically printed out when a new cartridge is inserted. On these models, you have 5 minutes to place the alignment page on the scanner and press Scan, after that time the Scan button will act normally.

·         These enterprise drivers cannot be installed over the full feature version of this software. To install the drivers only, uninstall the full feature software. This will result in driver only support for the product.

·         Some earlier full feature versions of the software will not co-exist with this enterprise version. For example, the full feature software that shipped with the HP PSC 2200 and 2100 should not be installed over this enterprise software. Doing so might result in the loss of scan functionality.

·         In Windows 2000, Microsoft Word might not open correctly following an install of these enterprise drivers until a reboot is done. It is highly recommended that the PC is rebooted after installing these enterprise drivers on Windows 2000 systems.

·         There are a lot of combinations of install and upgrade scenarios, and many have been tested by HP. However, due to the large number of compatibility possibilities some might have problems with coexistence, compatibility or functionality when more that one version of HP software is on the same PC. To help avoid these small percentile issues, it is highly recommended to uninstall the previous version of enterprise solution software before installing the latest version. A reboot is required after an initial install before an upgrade can be attempted, or the system will not upgrade properly.

·         Some previous HP corporate software versions should not be installed over this new HP corporate software version. If you decide to install an older version of HP corporate software, then you must first uninstall the newer version and then install the older version.

·         Unattended installations will uninstall any incompatible older HP Officejet or HP PSC software, if present, and silently install newer versions of these drivers. This may cause the client's machine to reboot but installation will continue after reboot with no user interaction.

·         On Windows 2000 versions, a popup message may appear when logging off after connecting the 7200 model. The popup dialog message refers to “stisvc.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.” The error described by this message will not affect the functionality of the software or 7200 device. After logging on or rebooting the system, the applications and device will work correctly, and the popup will not appear again.

·         If the Enterprise Release of the HP Officejet 7100 is previously installed, it must be uninstalled completely before installing this release:

Step 1: Uninstall the 7100 software following the standard process from the ARP window or from the command line executing 'HPGPUNIN -s' (-s to make it silent).

Step 2: The uninstaller provided does not delete all the entries of the Windows registry. To completely clean the Windows registry the following patch must be executed: 7100Scrubber_10032005.exe.

Note 1: Contact with HP Support to obtain this patch.

Note 2: Administrative privileges are required to execute both steps.
