The INF files are designed to install Sealevel Systems PCI Bus Asynchronous Communication Cards using the standard Windows 2000 serial device driver. This Microsoft serial driver is compatible with 16C550 class UARTS. Advanced UART's such as the 16850, 16854, 16950 and 16954 and their advanced features such as larger FIFO's, clock prescaling, driver controlled RTS RS-485 communications, and isochronous mode aren't supported at this time. Sealevel Systems cards equipped with our exclusive ULTRA Auto RS-485 circuit will work well with the Microsoft driver to implement 2-wire RS-485 mode. You will need to copy the INF files to the NT2000/inf subdirectory. This subdirectory is hidden and you will need to have "Show all files" chosen in Windows Explorer. Also included is the WinSSD Diagnostic Utility. WinSSD can be used to test the operation of the card by performing an external loopback on each port prior to using the card in your application. Copy WinSSD to the directory of your choice. The best installation method is to install the INF files prior to the hardware so that the INF files are in place and can be detected when "New Hardware is Found". After installing the INF files simply shut your system down and install your adapter. On boot, the card, if it is a PCI adapter, will be detected and the "New Hardware Wizard" will be started. Let Windows 2000 search for the best possible driver and it should locate the INF files and continue the installation. It is best to accept the installation defaults. If you are installing an ISA or PCMCIA adapter refer to the included Windows 2000 help file. After the installation completes, refer to Device Manager to make sure of a successful installation. Again, refer to the included help file. At this point you are ready to use a loopBack plug and WinSSD to test the functionality of your card. If for some reason you desire to remove the card , Windows 2000 provides an easy way. To remove the card, go to Device Manager and open the "MultiFunction Adapter" category. Locate our card and right click. This should open a small pop-up menu from which you can select "UnInstall". This will uninstall the card and clean up the registry. If you have additional questions or problems during installation, you may contact Sealevel Systems, Inc. Technical Support between the hours of 8AM and 5PM Eastern Standard Time.
